Given the long wait from Katy's debut album, I was skeptical as to whether or not she would be able to make a worthy follow-up.
Thankfully, she hit it out of the ballpark. "California Gurls" is a mesmerizing, catchy single. On it, Katy toys with a new electronic sound (and a guest appearance by Snoop Dogg!), while boasting about the highlights of being a "California Gurl."
The ultimate summer jam! Especially if you're a Californian, like me. =)

I love this single!!
It's very catchy to sing and it gets stuck in my head all day.
Im totally looking forward to the full album.

This song is one of my top favorite songs! This is her best single yet! it's so catchy and awesome! And it's a very weird idea to put Katy and Snoop Dogg together! But it was a good match! GREAT song! Very happy and is definitely going to smash the charts! Especially in Calfornia!! hahahaha...Can't wait til the new album comes out!!

Would be five stars, but Snoop Dogg sort of ruined it. Love Katy Perry, like another reviewer said she is one of the few mainstream artists I enjoy and respect. This is a fun, summer song and extremely catchy. Hoping for an unplugged/acoustic/live version that gets Snoop Dogg out of this song, otherwise it is a great song worthy of being on everyone's summer 2010 playlist! (This Texas gurl definitely wants to be a California gurl, ha.)

I love, love, LOVE this song.
It's extremely catchy and WILL get stuck in your head after the first couple of times you hear it (this could be a good or bad thing, depending on if you end up liking the song or not).
Katy Perry came back with force, and this time around, it's not a pop-rock appeal, but that's OK. I bet she's saving some of that for the album.
"The second record is really important to me because I think it shows whether I'm meant to do this, or I got lucky. Basically what I want to do is not alienate the audience that I have at all."
This is a snippet of what Katy said about her second record and good second records overall, so I'm sure that she will still have some pop-rock flair on the anticipated follow-up album to 2008's smash hit One of the Boys.
This song is appropriate enough for say a 13 year old to be listening to because it's relatively clean (for a contemporary pop song). Katy says the word "sex" and refers to a sexual act in the jeep, mentions the name of an alcoholic drink and Snoop Dogg's super-smooth verse is laden with things about how girls are hot and sexy so yeah. It's got a bit of adult content in it, but not enough to warrant it a parental advisory since technically there are no swears in the song.
I guarantee you though it's nothing they haven't heard on the radio up to this point. This should be one of the ultimate summer jams of 2010 and I can't WAIT for the season to arrive!
4.25 stars or an 8.5/10.
